Hr. Secretary Creech Jones to request you to inform the Council that he is anxious to take this opportunity, before the proposed delegation proceeds to "ong Kong, to refer to some of the reasons which, in
Mr. Creech Jones' view, make continued support of the University, and particularly its early rehabilitation, mattera of urgent encora to him

His sejest¿'s Government took the decisive in 1948 to re-establish the University on the 1940 scale, while holding in abeyance the recommendation of the Committee which reported in 1946 that financial assistance should be made available on a much larger scale to enable the University to fulfil adeqiately the wider functions for which it had been established. At the same time his Majesty's voronament gronised a free grant to the University of £250,000 "for rehabilitation and development”.
